Friendly with Fenris -- I chose Diplomatic answer for Thrask's first dialogue option and then I chose the green checkmark for the second.
I've also had this same smile work with Isabela, Aveline and Varric. I'm going to try the rest of them to see if it works with them as well. Strangely it seems to only work on the companion to the left of you.
